Cerapachys singularis
ClassificationTribe:Cerapachyini

Subfamily: Cerapachys
Family: Formicidae
Common name: Angle headed cannibal ant
Slender, brightly coloured ants, that forage in loose columns. They are terrestrial ants with subterranean nests, with nest sites mostly being temporary. All individuals have ocelli placed in a triangular formation on their head. Their foraging behaviour in loose columns of 3 - 5 are reminiscent of the army ant Aenictus. Feed exclusively on termites and brood of other ants. I observed these ants raiding into a nest of Iridomyrmex purpureus and they then carried the meat ant's larvae and pupae into their own nest.
